As your Ford dealer, we have a wide range of services to keep your vehicle in great condition. We want to tell you more about some of the types of Ford maintenance we provide.

Starter Repair

The starter cranks your engine, and this craning action starts the combustion process. Once combustion begins, it continues until you switch your engine off. The starter is powered by a strong electrical charge provided by the battery when you hit the start button. A worn or damaged starter can make starting slower or prevent your engine from starting at all.

A starter can wear out, but it’s more common for a small component called the starter solenoid to fail. The solenoid receives the electrical charge from the battery and passes it to the starter. If the solenoid fails, the starter won’t power up. We’ll examine your starter and replace the solenoid if it’s failed. If the starter is damaged, we’ll repair or replace it.

Rectifier Replacement

The alternator is a very strong component with few internal pieces. It spins at high speed and produces electricity for all your car’s systems. The spinning motion produces magnetic energy, which is captured by the stator and converted to AC. The AC is then converted by the rectifier to DC to supply your Ford’s electricity needs.

The rectifier can fail due to age, and this prevents the conversion of AC to DC. Without this conversion, your car’s systems will draw DC power from the battery. This can quickly exhaust the battery’s reserves, causing it to fail in less than 40 minutes on average. Replacing the rectifier is a quick process, and your alternator will produce usable electricity again.

Brake Fluid Leak

Brake fluid is vital for your braking system as it provides the hydraulic power that forces the braking system to engage and stop your Ford. The fluid operates in an airtight environment and is highly pressurized to provide the force needed to engage the brakes. The heat and pressure in the braking system, together with natural wear and tear, can cause a brake fluid leak.

A brake fluid leak is difficult to detect, as the fluid is thin and looks like cooking oil. You’ll feel the effects of a leak, as the brake pedal provides less resistance than it previously did. The loss of fluid will cause slower reactions from your brakes and increase your braking distance. Our technicians will find and seal the leak, then refill your brake fluid and you’ll be able to brake safely again.

Your Ford’s ignition coil turns the battery’s low power into the bang needed to ignite the fuel. If this coil isn’t pulling its weight, your car might start guzzling gas, shake, lose power, misfire, or worse, refuse to start. Below are eight faulty ignition coil signs that will tell you it’s time to head over to your Ford dealer for a new coil.

1. Your Car Suddenly Guzzles More Gas

One of the first signs of a failing ignition coil is when your car suddenly burns more gas than usual. When your spark plugs don’t receive the necessary power from the battery, your car’s fuel consumption will spike.

2. Your Car Feels Slow and Sluggish

A failing coil can make your car slow and sluggish when you put your foot down. If your Ford isn’t as responsive as it once was when you accelerate, poor ignition of the air-fuel mixture in the engine could be the problem.

3. Your Car Misfires and Idles Roughly

A failing ignition coil can cause your car to misfire, which can damage your engine. When your car misfires or starts to idle roughly, it’s definitely time to visit us for a thorough checkup.

4. Your Car Backfires

When your engine starts stumbling and misfiring, it’s a serious problem. You’ll hear loud bangs and see smoke billowing out of your tailpipe. The quicker you get this problem fixed, the less damage it will cause and the more money you will save.

5. You Hear Strange Coughing and Spluttering Noises

If your car makes strange noises when you start it, something’s up. In addition to hearing the loud bangs from your misfiring engine, you will also hear coughing or spluttering noises.

6. Your Engine Stalls

If the coil is failing and not giving enough voltage to the spark plugs, they can’t ignite the fuel properly. This will cause your engine to stall when your car is idling.

7. You Struggle To Get Your Car Going

The coil supplies the necessary voltage to create the spark that starts your engine. If the coil isn’t doing its job, starting your car will become a real struggle. If you happen to get it going, it’s best to drive to us as soon as possible before your car won’t start at all.

8. Your Check Engine Light Goes On

When you see the check engine light on your dashboard light up, it’s a warning something’s wrong. When you notice the light, especially if your car is stalling, misfiring, or struggling to start, book an appointment with us as soon as possible to sort your car out before things get worse.

If your car is giving you problems like the ones mentioned above, you need to get a new coil fitted very soon. Get in touch with Banister Ford of Marlow Heights in Suitland, MD, today. Our certified Ford technicians will expertly replace the coil and make your car troubles vanish in a flash.

If you start noticing anything off about how your brakes are working, it’s probably time to get them checked. Here’s what to watch for so you know when it’s time for brake repair at the Ford dealer.

Weird Noises When You Brake

Hearing strange noises when you hit the brakes is a classic sign that something’s up. If there’s a high-pitched squealing, your brake pads might be wearing thin. Brake pads have these little indicators built into them that make noise to let you know they need changing. A grinding sound could mean the pads have worn down completely, and you’ve got metal rubbing on metal, which isn’t good.

Brake Pedal Feels Off

If your brake pedal feels mushy, or you have to press it way down to get any response, you might have a problem with your brake fluid or a leak in the brake line. Leaks can let air into your braking system, making it less effective. Keep an eye out for any fluid puddle under your car. Brake fluid is usually clear or slightly yellowish.

Car Pulls to One Side

Does your Ford pull to one side when you’re trying to stop? That could be a stuck caliper causing one brake pad to wear out faster than the other, or it might mean there’s something wrong with your brake fluid. Uneven pad wear or contaminated fluid both require a visit to the dealership.

Vibrations When Braking

Feeling a vibration in the brake pedal, especially when you stop from higher speeds? That’s often a sign of warped rotors. Rotors can get warped from too much heavy braking, like when you’re coming down a mountain road or stopping hard on the freeway.

Burning Smell During a Drive

If you catch a whiff of something burning while you’re driving, especially after some hard braking, it might mean your brakes got too hot. Overheated brakes can fail, so if you smell something burning, pull over safely, check things out, and let your brakes cool down. And make sure your parking brake hasn’t been left on by accident. It happens!

Your Brake Light’s On

When your dashboard’s brake warning light comes on, don’t ignore it. It could be something as simple as needing more brake fluid, or something more serious. It’s always best to get it checked out right away to avoid bigger problems.

Time for a Brake Check-Up?

If any of these signs sound familiar, it’s a good idea to take your Ford in for a brake check. Regular maintenance can catch a lot of these issues early, and our professional technicians know exactly what to look for. Staying on top of brake maintenance can save you from more serious problems down the road.

If something feels off, don’t wait. Get those brakes checked to keep your drives smooth and safe. Call Banister Ford of Marlow Heights in Suitland-Silver Hill, MD, today to schedule your next brake inspection.

A red 2024 Ford F-350 | Ford dealer in Suitland, MD | Banister Ford of Marlow Heights

Meet the 2024 Ford F-350 SD: the Super Duty truck that can tow, haul, and do it all and make the whole crew happy in the process.

Four Power Plants Mean Maximum Muscle

When it comes to muscle, the F-350 SD has plenty. Even the entry-level 6.8-liter gasoline V8 offers a mighty 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, more than enough for almost any job. But for the real tough jobs, the 7.3-liter High Output Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8 offers the most muscle on the market, with a full 500 horsepower and awe-inspiring 1,200 lb-ft of torque on tap to move almost anything, almost anywhere.

Towing Capacity to Lead the Pack

The 2024 F-350 SD offers up to 8,000 pounds of payload capacity and up to 32,900 pounds of towing capability when properly equipped with a gooseneck, or up to 27,000 pounds of conventional towing.

High-Tech Hauling

Sometimes how you tow matters as much as how much you can tow, and Ford has plenty of high-tech options available to make the job easy, like blind spot monitoring with trailer coverage, Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Hitch Assist, Trailer Navigation, and more. Prefer to load the bed rather than focus on trailering? No problem. The available Onboard Scales feature tracks weight and balance as you load, ensuring the bed is loaded evenly.

Crew Comfort Compatible

Whether you’re buying a truck for you or for your crew, Ford knows that those who work the hardest deserve to be rewarded. The F-350 SD is comfortable and roomy inside, with crew cab models offering over 43 inches of legroom, even in the back row. The SYNC 4 infotainment system comes on screens up to 12 inches, and can pipe music through premium Bang & Olufsen speakers. And wintry workdays are no issue when both rows have available heated seats.

Do More Work From the Field

If the work has to get done and it needs to be on-site, the F-350 SD steps up to the limelight. With the available 5G Wi-Fi Hotspot, crucial connectivity can mean getting more done. Meanwhile, available Pro Power Onboard delivers up to 2 kW of power to drive tools, charge batteries, and ensure the job gets done on time.

The raw power embodied in the F-350 SD can be described, but it has to be driven to be felt. Fortunately, your F-350 is waiting. Book your test drive today at Banister Ford of Marlow Heights in Suitland, MD, and discover just how much the F-350 can do for you and your crew (and just how easy and affordable it can be to take one home).

It may be tempting to buy aftermarket parts for your Ford, whether to save money or try for a performance boost, but these parts can reduce the vehicle’s lifespan. OEM parts are the same parts you’ll find factory-fitted when the car or truck is new, and a Ford dealer will use them when servicing your vehicle. To keep your Ford running smoothly for many years, it makes sense to maintain it with original components.

The Importance of Genuine Parts for Longevity

Using genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts helps preserve your Ford’s longevity. That’s because the vehicle is designed with specific parts in mind, whether they’re pre-existing or made specially. The suppliers make these parts to exact specifications and within tight engineering tolerances. They have strict quality-control procedures, so the product meets a reliable standard.

If you buy cheap aftermarket parts, there’s a strong chance they won’t have been made to the same precise specifications, or they’ll be made to loosely fit a range of cars or models. Ford uses many trusted brands to make car parts, including its own Motorcraft subsidiary.

How Aftermarket Parts Can Harm Performance and Reliability

Aftermarket parts can potentially harm your vehicle, adversely affecting performance and reliability. The humble air filter serves as an example. If this fits poorly into its housing, unfiltered air loaded with dust and debris can damage the engine over time, eventually causing serious issues like reduced power output, poor acceleration, rough idling, engine stalling, decreased fuel efficiency, and increased emissions.

Some aftermarket parts that are designed to tune performance, like an ECU, can ultimately cause problems. An aftermarket ECU may be incompatible with existing vehicle systems, for instance, and it often creates hurdles with emissions testing through a lack of OBD2 communication. Other aftermarket “upgrade” items that could hurt performance include suspension parts, brake components, or intake and exhaust systems.

Maintaining Your Warranty

One way to maximize your Ford’s lifespan is to comply with the conditions of your Ford warranty from the outset. If an aftermarket part doesn’t harm your vehicle, you won’t invalidate your warranty, but it’s a different story if that part causes problems. You cannot void the warranty with correctly installed OEM components.

Let a Ford Dealer Service Your Ford

When a Ford technician services your vehicle, you know it’s being serviced with original parts. This way, you don’t compromise on performance, safety, or reliability. You’ll maximize your Ford’s lifespan and gain invaluable peace of mind.

Contact Banister Ford of Marlow Heights in Suitland, MD to schedule a service for your vehicle using original Ford parts.

If you love adventurous driving, you’ll love the agile and rugged capabilities of the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport. Below, we’re highlighting five reasons you need to test drive this compact SUV and experience the thrill for yourself.

1. The Excellent 4×4 System

No matter which trim you choose, your Bronco Sport will come with a great 4×4 system that improves traction as you navigate rough terrain. The Badlands trim comes with an advanced 4×4 with a twin-clutch rear drive for added capabilities. This gives you more traction, and the ability to send propulsion to a single rear wheel. When the other wheels have no traction, the single wheel can help you get out of slippery off-roading conditions.

2. The Smooth Performance

You’ll want to get behind the wheel of a Bronco Sport this year to experience the smooth everyday performance of the EcoBoost engine for yourself. The standard 1.5-liter engine is complemented by an eight-speed automatic transmission that is responsive and ready to go.

3. The G.O.A.T. Modes

Every Bronco Sport comes with five selectable driving modes, known as G.O.A.T. modes (goes over any type of terrain). This great system offers enhanced off-roading performance for Normal, Sport, Eco, Slippery, and Sand modes. The Badlands trim adds Rock Crawl and Mud/Ruts modes to this list, for exciting performance when you’re on the trail.

4. The 180-Degree Camera With Split-View

This available feature adds to the experience when you’re driving in Rock Crawl or Mud/Ruts mode in the Badlands trim. The camera will work as an up-close spotter, giving you a unique view of the trail so you can make more informed off-roading decisions.

5. The Colorful Exterior Options

The Bronco Sport comes in so many fun exterior colors and styles this year, and you’ll definitely want to come to the dealership to see these for yourself in person. Ford has added two cool new colors to the lineup for 2024: Azure Gray and Desert Sand. These join the familiar options of Shadow Black, Cactus Gray, Hot Pepper Red, Atlas Blue, and Oxford White.

Additionally, different rims have different styling. The Heritage trim comes with a stylish Oxford White painted roof, while the Free Wheeling trim comes with a two-tone Black roof. The Free Wheeling trim is new for 2024, and also comes with body graphics inspired by vehicles from the 1970s. This trim also adds ombre stitching with a sunset weave cloth to the cloth seats.

Drivers looking for a sporty and small SUV they can take on big adventures really need to test drive the Bronco Sport this year. Visit Banister Ford of Marlow Heights in Suitland, MD now to see our selection of excellent new vehicles.
